Layher Scaffolding VS Aluminum Truss: What's the Difference?
Steel layher systems and aluminum truss solve different problems on event sites — here is where each one wins, and why festivals often use both.

If you are deciding between layher-style scaffolding and aluminum truss, the short answer is that they are different tools for different loads — and if your rental stock works outdoor festivals, the corrosion question matters from the first day of the spec. Here is how the two systems compare.
What Each System Is Built From
AUS layer (layher-type) systems are galvanized steel: beam pipes of Q235 steel at 48×2.75 mm and pillar pipes of Q355 steel at 48×3 mm, both hot galvanized. Aluminum truss is a different animal — 6061-T6 aluminum alloy in box, triangle and ladder sections from 250×250 mm up to 600×1200 mm, light enough for fast rigging of lighting and LED loads.
Where Each One Wins
Layer systems carry stage support and outdoor event structures where steel rigidity and weather protection matter — towers, support grids, and platforms that stay up through a festival run. Aluminum truss wins on spans and speed: lighting rigs, roof beams and exhibition structures that go up and come down quickly. Outdoor festivals frequently combine both — layer towers for support, aluminum truss for the spans between them — and AUS supplies both from the same factory.
Our rental stock works for outdoor festivals, will cold galvanized layher scaffolding rust quickly in rainy weather?
It is the right question to ask, and the specification is the answer: AUS layer systems use hot galvanizing on both beam and pillar pipes, which is the finish rental fleets rely on for outdoor and rainy-season work.
Corrosion Protection Is a Specification, Not an Afterthought
For stock that lives outdoors, the galvanizing treatment belongs in the purchase spec, next to the steel grade. AUS layer systems specify hot galvanizing on Q235 beams and Q355 pillars precisely because festival calendars do not wait for dry weather. Layer stage decks complete the system in 1×2 m or 1.22×2.44 m modules with plywood anti-slip tops, adjustable from 0.4 m to 2 m.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which steel does AUS use for layer truss beams and pillars?
Beam pipes are Q235 steel at 48×2.75 mm; pillar pipes are Q355 steel at 48×3 mm — both hot galvanized.
Can I buy layher-style systems and aluminum truss together?
Yes. AUS manufactures both and can supply them as one package for a project, from a factory of more than 3,000 square meters.
